“You are an artist.  That was the best massage I’ve ever had.”                                                                                               -Susan RN, cancer patient

Prairie House emphasizes care of the whole person, not just the body.  As a small business owner Jeff has provided advanced practice massage care and counseling at the historic South Bend Colfax Center since 2002.

“I couldn’t wait to tell all my friends about the gem I had found!  I would highly recommend Jeff for fantastic personalized treatment.  I felt completely at ease and he made sure I was comfortable during all stages of the massage.  I walked out feeling wonderfully refreshed and loose.”                                                                                                               -Emily, expectant mother

A Better Value for Your Time and Money

Health care in the U.S. is upside down.  When we’re in pain we seek the most invasive and expensive approaches to healing first.  Only after the MRIs, medications, injections or surgery fail to bring relief do we consider gentler, whole-person approaches like massage, yoga, nutrition and lifestyle changes.

This is crazy.  Chemically altering the body and slicing into its tissue should be the last option we reach for, not the first.  This backwards approach to health is expensive, risky and creates dependency on others for our health.

Many people understand this, but what choice do you have?  Few are taught the alternatives to pills-and-scalpels healing.  Few understand how their bodies work: how injuries happen, why pain persists, or ways to promote lasting healing.  And medicine itself suffers from skewed vision when physicians and hospitals are reimbursed for treating you, rather than for healing you.  Imagine how this arrangement affects the perception of and care for your condition.  It’s like the old saying, “When all you have is a hammer (pills and surgery), everything looks like a nail (medical and surgical issues).”

So at Prairie House we start with your story, not just your symptoms.  How’s your life going?  What are your strengths and challenges?  You’ll learn how your body works and how an imbalance anywhere in your life can be part of your physical problems.   And how massage, self-care and other approaches can help you regain health and lasting wellness.

Massage is not the answer to every problem.  But it is a sensible, low-risk and inexpensive place to start.  If I cannot help you, I will refer you to the best healing professionals in our community who can, including physicians I worked with every day who demonstrate true care and compassion.  All in a caring approach that respects you as an intelligent, full partner in the art of healing.  Convenient e-mail appointments made here.
