“After referring a patient to Jeff’s practice, I was intrigued by his very positive reports and scheduled my first massage. I left that day feeling so relaxed, calm and limber that I’ve become a repeat client.” -Mark, MD
First massage?
Prior to your first massage session Jeff will listen carefully to your needs, health/fitness and medical history. This first half-hour assessment is free. The massage process is explained in advance and provided in a cozy, private room with relaxing music. After the session you will be provided any educational or referral resources needed for your healing.
“I like that…you are not pushing any products, or even your own services. Enough conversation for human connection, but not too much to be able to concentrate on breathing and relaxation.” -Elaine
Do I have to take my clothes off?
No. Your comfort, privacy and control over the massage are always primary. Clients are always draped with a tucked-in cover sheet to allow work on the particular body area at issue. You decide how much clothing to leave on.
“Walking in for the first time, Prairie House Massage shone warmth and openness. Jeff was very considerate and intentional about getting to know my body and spirit before laying a hand on me.” -Liz
“The Last Massage Therapist I Had Pushed Too Hard.”
This is a sure sign of an amateur, unskilled or distracted therapist who did not seek feedback from the client or adjust to the client’s body responses. At Prairie House, Jeff always checks with the client during the massage to assure that pressure levels are comfortable. His motto: “You are in charge of the massage.” That means you control the massage pressure, which body areas are worked on, even the massage table temperature!
“Unlike most commercial salons, Jeff has such a genuine passion for his job, beliefs and life in general. He really tries to individualize every session and treat not just your sore muscles but you as a whole person.” -Beth, MD
How often should I get a massage?
The truth? Your body will tell you. In the hours and days after the massage, your body will respond to the massage and you will get a felt sense of whether it would be helpful to receive additional massages. Frequency is also determined by your physical condition, your personal schedule and your budget. But most importantly, by what your body is telling you. This is not guesswork: it’s a felt reality. A body knows.
Jeff provides extremely professional care while conveying a sense of true caring and concern.” -Sharon, RN
The Difference between Prairie House and a Spa Massage?
The difference is between the custom massage work by Jeff Nixa and the generic body “rubs” provided by overworked, underpaid therapists at many day spas. As a nationally certified massage therapist Jeff is trained in multiple techniques for different client needs. For example, one client may benefit most from neuromuscular techniques, another from technical stretches or trigger point therapy. But the most important difference at Prairie House is not about techniques or facilities. It is about the care of persons. Because the best massage does not come from strong hands, hot rocks or perfumed towels. It comes from the heart. And Jeff Nixa has over twenty-five years’ experience helping people heal, from the heart.
“I would never go to a spa or health club after experiencing the personalized treatment Jeff offers. He is a friend. I am never a number, but a complete person in Jeff’s office.” -Kathy, RN
“Jeff’s South Bend office space is at the top of my list: very soothing. Nothing ruins a massage like the smell of permanent solution and chatter at a hair salon immediately outside the massage room.” -Mary
Do You Make Home or Office Visits?
No. All massages are provided at the Prairie House office in South Bend. Jeff is happy to refer you to other massage therapists who provide traveling massage in the home or in corporate settings. (Be aware that traveling therapists typically charge additional fees for travel time, mileage and time for equipment setup/ takedown.)
Do You Sell Gift Certificates?
